Beat The Heat – Summer Road-Trip Essentials!

Hey guys! It’s Aspen, and today I am going to show you my road-trip essentials!

Since I am going on a road-trip this summer down to Utah, I’ve begun to think about what I need to pack, and while doing so, I thought of what I would need right there in the car with me.

Please keep in my mind that the following do not include actual clothing, toiletries, etc., and that what I might find an essential to keep in the car may be different from what you think is necessary.

Without further ado, here are my summer road-trip essentials!

1. Phone and Headphones

Nokia Lumia 521, $80 (Amazon)

With a phone, you can listen to music, go online, scroll through Tumblr, and keep in contact with your friends and family. If you are anything like me, you’ll love listening to music and podcasts while on the go. I also know how annoying it is to listen to music that you hate but other people love, so a pair of headphones is also necessary.

In particular, if you are looking for a new smartphone, I would recommend my phone, the Nokia Lumia, because it has a wide variety of free apps & games, and the battery usually lasts me about three hours. There are more recent versions of this phone which are more advanced than mine, and this is just the version that I currently own.

Beats Solo HD in Drenched in Teal, $170 (Amazon)

These Beats headphones are not actually mine – they belong to a friend who has kindly let me borrow them from time to time. They do cost quite a bit more than most people would be willing to pay for a pair of headphones, but trust me, they are worth the price. With these les ecouteurs, you will be able to block out everything that you don’t want to hear, locking in all of the good sounds:)

2. Portable Phone Charger

Printed Portable Phone Charger from Urban Outfitters, $24 (Urban Outfitters)

A portable phone charger is a device that can re-charge your phone up to three times on a single, full charge. To use this device, first charge by plugging it into an outlet until it is full. Then, whenever your phone is on its deathbed, connect your dying phone to the portable charger via USB, and voila! Your phone will soon by alive & well again!

In particular, I chose to get this specific portable phone charger on the basis that a)it’s pretty, and b) I’ve heard really good reviews on Amazon and Ebay. I love the floral design and the best part of it is that it is effective, keeping your phone powered until you need to turn it off:)

3. Magazines

June 2014 issue of Seventeen, $12 for 2 year subscription (Amazon)

Ever since I was young, I’ve been entertained by magazines because I could re-read them over and over again without ever getting bored. Because I like to attempt new hairstyles upon myself, I can be entertained without requiring much human company.

I prefer to read Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and People Magazine to find new ideas for hairstyles, as well as makeup tips & tricks. Since I find it distracting to read a book while at the beach or pool, I prefer to flip through a magazine instead of a novel, as it requires less focus and is more fun for me. Summer should be a great time of the year for everyone:)

4. Lip Balm

Korres Lip Butter in Pomegranate, $12 (Sephora)

Nobody likes chapped lips, so I’ll bring a lip balm with me wherever I go. When I was in elementary school, I used to have the driest lips in the world. I would have to rub the fattiest of balms on my lips whenever I got back home, in an attempt to keep them from getting dry & flaky.

I prefer tinted lip balms because you get a nice bit of color as well as moisturization, which is quite nice. Because I am lazy during the summer when it comes to beauty, this is the perfect 2-in-1 product for me.

5. Food

Brookside Dark Chocolate Açai with Blueberry, $6 (Amazon)

I’m always hungry, so a small stash of food in my bag is an absolute necessity for me. Since you can’t really exercise while on a road-trip as much as you could otherwise, I’ll usually go for a more health-conscious snack. For example, I will pick up some almonds or these dark-chocolate covered acai-blueberries for a quick, sweet fix.

I know that chocolate is not a very nutritious choice, but because these are made of dark chocolate, they will be a little bit healthier than their milk and white chocolate cousins. I also need something sweet everyday to stay sane, so this is the healthiest option that I could think of that was somewhat healthy while still sweet.

Evolution Fresh Juice in Apple Berry + Fiber, about $4 (Evolution Fresh)

I drink water the majority of the time over other options because I would rather eat my calories than drink them. With that said, sometimes plain water just doesn’t cut it, so I’ll go for an Evolution Juice instead. These juices are all-natural and nutritious. They also taste really good too, so they’re perfect! My favorite flavor is Apple Berry, because it has the sweetness of an apple and the tartness of berries.

6. A Bag

Victoria’s Secret Pink Backpack, about $80 (Amazon)

I had purchased this cute backpack from Victoria’s Secret Pink a little while ago because it is small, cute, and handy! I prefer backpacks to a bag or tote because you can throw a backpack over your shoulders and not have your arms restricted at all. With a shoulder bag, your arm will not have a full range of motion, and all of the weight of the bag will be resting on one shoulder.

This backpack will also come in handy during the school year as well, because I can throw my textbooks in & go!

Let me know in the comments down below what you would like to see next, and don’t forget to like!

Have a beautiful night,
