Beauty Favorites – July 2014

Hey guys! It’s Aspen, and today I’m going to share with you all the beauty products that I’ve been loving for this past July!

This past month, I’ve been focusing on doing minimal makeup and hair care because of the intense heat and humidity that Seattle has been experiencing lately. A daily look for me has been consisting of a light layer of foundation, powder, waterproof mascara, and tinted lip balm. As for hair, I’ve been keeping it natural by keeping the heat to a minimum, and using oils to keep it soft and shiny.

Without further ado, here are my beauty favorites for this past July!

Marcelle BB Cream in Golden Glow

1. Marcelle BB Cream in Golden Glow, $23, Birchbox

I’d originally received this sample in a previous Birchbox, and although it was too dark for my skin tone at the time, it now blends out perfectly. I like to mix a dabble of this product with a bit of white, unscented, lotion to sheer out the color and provide hydration for my skin. It has a light to medium coverage and blends out beautifully.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Sandstorm

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Sandstorm, $5.29, Walgreens

To keep my makeup from melting off my face, I will swipe on a bit of powder after applying BB Cream. In particular, this powder, while being quite affordable, is also very effective. It keeps oils to a minimum, and if you sweat under the sun, makeup remains intact. I have to reapply every few hours, simply because I have oily skin.

Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze

3. Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, $4.19, Walgreens

When I have a little extra time on my hands, I will apply a quick, cream shadow to the lids for something special. This light, metallic shade compliments any eye color, and looks complete with just a bit of waterproof mascara. Because it is a cream formula, this product is prone to creasing, although it still looks great after a bit of wear & tear.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Nude

4. Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Nude, $4.99, Amazon

I never wake up looking refreshed, so I need all the help I can get to look alive in the morning. A nude pencil on the waterline makes eyes appear wider, giving a more awake appearance. To apply this liner, gently tug down on your eye and smudge this creamy pencil onto your waterline for a bright-eyed appearance. I’ve used this pencil so much that the writing has come off!

The Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara by Maybelline in Glam Black

5. The Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara by Maybelline in Glam Black, $4.67, Walgreens

Mascara is an essential year – round, forcing waterproof mascara to be necessary for the summer months of the year. To fake the look of wearing liner on the upper lash line, focus the wand on the base of your eyelashes and wiggle upwards for a full, butterfly effect. If you are going to be spending the day by the water, be sure to apply waterproof mascara to prevent raccoon eyes.

Benetint by Benefit Cosmetics

6. Benetint by Benefit Cosmetics, $30, Birchbox

Similar to the Marcelle BB Cream, I had also gotten this as a sample in a previous Birchbox. The beautiful thing about this product is that it can be used on both the cheeks as blush, and lips for a sheer, rosy tint. This multi-use liquid tint doesn’t smudge around or melt off, making it perfect for warm weather.

Nivea Lip Butters in Vanilla Macadamia Kiss and Raspberry Rose Kiss

7. Nivea Lip Butters in Vanilla Macadamia Kiss and Raspberry Rose Kiss, $3.79 each, Walgreens

Stained lips can be dehydrating, so I like to follow up with a light lip butter to prevent flaking and overall dryness. I prefer these balms over others because they come in a tin, which you don’t see very often. Whilst shopping at Target, I couldn’t find the original Nivea lip butter, so I headed home with the Vanilla Macadamia and Raspberry Rose Kiss!

Orange Sapphire Eau de Toilette by Bath and Body Works

8. Orange Sapphire Eau de Toilette by Bath and Body Works, 2.5 oz., $19.99, Amazon

I’ve had this scent for years, but have recently rediscovered it while moving apartments. This scent is described as “exotic blood orange with tantalizing notes of white jasmine, golden honey, and citrus sangria”, inspired by the heat of Brazil. I don’t know if this is what Brazil smells like, but the sporty & sexy kick gives off a Latin flare. This product is no longer sold at Bath and Body Works, but here it is on Amazon.

Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo and Conditioner

 1. Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo and Conditioner, $3.99 each (10.1 fl oz.), Walgreens

I like to change up my hair care products when the bottles run up, and I had picked these up last time I was at the store. I don’t know if these actually help hair grow longer or keep hair healthy, but it smells deliciously of pomegranate and leaves hair feeling silky smooth:)

L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil

2. L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil, 4.2 oz., $13, Amazon

To smooth out frizzy hair, I apply this oil before blow-drying to seal ends and tame annoying flyaways. The combination of avocado and grape seed oils in this product leaves hair glossy, not oily, and absorbs quickly without a residue. I couldn’t find this product in store, and had to chuck over the $15 via Amazon. I’ve used this product everyday for the past few months, and have barely reached the halfway marker.

-Aspen 🙂
